Hoylake has a genuine sense of community, transport links to Liverpool, and lovely local businesses to support—there are countless reasons why I chose to look for houses for sale in Hoylake, Wirral. Here are 8.
I have lived in Wirral for (pretty much) my entire 32 years. It’s no secret how much I enjoy living in this area. I briefly moved to Liverpool for university and as much as I love the city, I always cherished the fact I could go home. As I began searching for houses for sale in Hoylake, Wirral that fit my budget, I felt excited and overwhelmed. Luckily, I found great help. One thing was clear: Hoylake was where I wanted to plant my roots. Here are 8 reasons I love living in Hoylake, Wirral.
1. I feel there is a genuine sense of community in Hoylake
Wirral and Liverpool are well known for their strong characters and sense of community. Since moving to Hoylake, I have genuinely enjoyed getting to know my neighbours. It’s a supportive town, and community events are a regular feature. From the Artisan Market outside the Ship Inn to local charity walks/runs, Hoylake brings people together.

Whenever I read ‘there is a great sense of community,’ I do a little eye roll. But Hoylake is special when it comes to feeling part of an area; it’s a small town with a huge welcome. There’s a true sense of belonging here, and that’s one of the reasons I feel so connected to this town.
2. I have access to plenty of beautiful beaches
Another reason I love living in Hoylake, Wirral is the easy access to beautiful beaches. I was raised in West Kirby and spent my childhood walking to Hilbre Island, wandering to Red Rocks, and participating in water sports on the Marine Lake.

Hoylake Beach is just a stone’s throw from my home, so I use it daily. The summer sunsets are breathtaking, with the sun dipping into the water on the horizon. In Winter, it creates a stunning backdrop as it sets behind the mountains. This beach also hosts activities like land yachting and kite buggying; visit the Wirral Sand Yacht Club for more details.
3. I have great restaurants right on my doorstep
One thing is sure: Hoylake, Wirral, is not short on places to eat! There are restaurants, takeaways, and cafes galore.

One of my go-to spots is Arthur’s of Hoylake for my favourite glass of wine and small plates. Arthur’s offers a variety of great wines, artisanal beers, and bespoke cocktails. This spot is extra lovely in the summer; you can enjoy the terrace area and watch the world go by while sipping your favourite drink. Here’s my review of Arthur’s of Hoylake.
For a Sunday lunch you won’t forget, try The Ship Inn, which is exceptional and regularly booked. The menu boasts classic pub dishes like burgers, fish and chips, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. There is also lots of outdoor seating.
4. And plenty of cosy pubs!
Hoylake also has plenty of pubs. Our most visited pub in Hoylake is The Black Toad. (And it doesn’t hurt that it’s just a minute’s walk from our back door.) It’s warm and inviting, perfect for me and my partner grabbing an after-work drink or bringing my little one with card games.

Since opening in July 2019, owners Michelle and Robin have created an excellent craft beer micropub and bottle shop on Market Street in Hoylake. With 90% of their beer sourced locally, they also recently earned the title CAMRA’s (Campaign for Real Ale) Wirral Pub of the Year.
There is often a mix of familiar faces and newcomers. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back, and outdoor seating is available for sunny days. They might not serve food, but don’t miss out on their fantastic snack selection.
5. I love walking along the beach to West Kirby via Red Rocks
I will always appreciate how much of Wirral can be explored by walking! You can stroll through the countryside and woodland, visit pretty towns and villages, or walk to Hilbre Island.
Living in Hoylake means that whenever I fancy, I can walk to West Kirby via Hoylake Beach and Red Rocks. It’s a lovely walk with a view of Hilbre Island in the distance.

Red Rocks Marsh is a beautiful coastal reserve that covers 10 acres, perfect for leisurely walks. The landscape features dunes, reedbeds, and marshes. During the spring and autumn, various migratory birds visit the area, while the reedbeds offer shelter for some wintering species. The open pools are also home to the rare Natterjack Toad.
In terms of plant life, the reserve boasts more than 50 flowering species, adding to its rich biodiversity. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is partly managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust.

6. The Wirral Way is nearby, and I can cycle safely with my son
I love to get outdoors with my son as much as possible, and the Wirral Way’s proximity to Hoylake means we can cycle away from roads.

The Wirral Way is a scenic coastal path that stretches across the Wirral Peninsula. Originally an old railway line, this 12.2-mile route connects West Kirby to Hooton in Chester. The path was established in 1973, following the closure of the railway line between Cheshire and Wirral in 1962.
Whether you’re interested in a casual walk or cycling, the Wirral Way is great to have nearby— there are numerous stopping points along the way, including Thurstaston and Parkgate.
7. I can regularly support lots of local businesses
I love to support local businesses, and Hoylake, Wirral is brilliant because there are so many independent shops offering everything from handcrafted jewellery to gorgeous cakes.

Shopping locally is a win-win for us and the business owners, so we shop for as much locally as possible. It’s so lovely to support people’s dreams and loves in a small way. We love Abba Cakes for the best sweet treats, Lilac and Thyme for gorgeous flowers, and I visit Signature Beauty Rooms for hair and nails with the most amazing women every month.
8. There are plenty of transport links to Liverpool and beyond
One key benefit of living in Hoylake is its excellent transport links to Liverpool. I worked in Liverpool for a long time and used Merseyrail daily; the train and buses are pretty reliable.

Whether heading into Liverpool for work or leisure, Hoylake’s transport connections ensure you’re less than an hour away from the city.
Whether you’re a family seeking a spacious home, a professional looking for easy access to the city, or someone looking for a peaceful retirement spot, Hoylake, Wirral, offers a place to live and a lifestyle. You won’t be short of things to do here.
With its natural beauty, community spirit, and modern conveniences, it’s no wonder that many people like me fall in love with this lovely seaside town. I can’t recommend looking for houses for sale in Hoylake, Wirral enough.
