Eureka! Science and Discovery in Wirral.

They’re active on social media, regularly host special events and workshops, and the biggest selling point for me was the annual pass included with your ticket. Pay once, and you can visit as many times as you like for a whole year, which makes it fantastic value for money for families.

We decided to give it a try on a Saturday visit, and honestly, we loved it from the moment we arrived.

Parking at Eureka! Science + Discovery

When we arrived, there was plenty of parking available beside the Seacombe Ferry Terminal. Parking here is pay-and-display, and everything felt easy and straightforward from the start of our visit.

If you’re travelling from Liverpool, you can also take the ferry across the Mersey and get off at Seacombe, which would make such a lovely addition to the day out, especially for children who enjoy boats and exploring somewhere new. It makes it a little adventure!

Ticket prices and annual pass value

At the time of our visit, tickets were £16.95 for adults and children aged 3+, £7.45 for children aged 1-2, and free for those under 1. You can view the latest ticket prices on the official Eureka! Science + Discovery website.

What makes Eureka! stand out among other family attractions is that your full-price ticket includes an annual pass. Once you’ve paid, you can return as many times as you like over the next 12 months, which makes it excellent value for money, especially if you live locally or plan regular family days out.

We visited Eureka! on a Saturday

We visited Eureka! Science + Discovery on a Saturday, so naturally, I expected it to be extremely busy. Surprisingly, it never felt overcrowded at all. The museum uses a timed-entry booking system, which helps manage visitor numbers and gives families plenty of space to enjoy everything comfortably.

One of the things I appreciated most was that we rarely had to queue for activities. My son could move naturally from one exhibit to the next without losing interest, which made the experience feel much more fluid and enjoyable for both of us.

As soon as we walked in, the atmosphere felt exciting and welcoming. The space itself is bright, modern, and open, with lots going on without feeling chaotic. A member of staff explained how the museum is divided into different themed sections: ‘Bodies’, ‘Homes’, and ‘Nature’. During our visit, the ‘Make Create’ area was running a story jar activity, which added another creative, hands-on element to the day.

Hands-on exhibits and interactive learning

What I loved most about Eureka! Science + Discovery was how interactive everything felt. Gone are the days of simply reading a plaque and moving on – here, you get to engage.

From experimenting with water currents to exploring light and sound, the exhibits kept my son completely engaged without ever feeling too educational or structured. Everything encouraged children to explore, test ideas, and get involved.

We started upstairs in the ‘Nature’ section, which quickly became my son’s favourite area. The climbing space immediately caught his attention, and within minutes, he was scrambling around, burning off energy before moving on to the interactive exhibits about food chains, wildlife, and the environment.

I personally found the ‘Homes’ section fascinating and could have easily spent much longer there. It explored everyday living in a creative, interactive way that really makes you think about the spaces we use daily but often take for granted. My son especially enjoyed designing his own home layouts and experimenting with different ideas.

We saved the ‘Bodies’ section until last because it seemed to be the busiest area during our visit, and it ended up being where we spent the most time. My son loved how physical and energetic the exhibits were, and it was lovely to see him so engaged as he learned how the human body works.

In total, we spent just over two hours exploring the museum, but we easily could have stayed longer. I think families with younger children could comfortably make a half-day visit out of it, especially with access to areas like The Burrow.

The Burrow (under 7’s)

For families with younger children, Eureka! Science + Discovery also has a dedicated under-7s area called The Burrow, located within the ferry terminal building. Designed especially for little explorers, it features its own welcome desk, a small shop filled with age-appropriate toys and gifts, and dedicated members of the Eureka! team helping families make the most of their visit.

Inside, younger children can climb into a giant dormouse nest before zooming down the slide, explore the baby and toddler soft play area, build and create in the imagination playground®, and experiment with shapes, colours, lights, and interactive activities designed to encourage learning through play. There’s even an interactive pond where children can chase fish, along with fun interactive details hidden throughout the space.

What I really liked is that The Burrow feels thoughtfully designed for younger children rather than simply being a small toddler corner added as an afterthought. It gives little ones their own space to safely explore, play, and build confidence while still feeling part of the wider Eureka! experience.

Access to The Burrow is included with standard admission, though during busier periods, they may operate timed-entry slots to help keep the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone.

They have a coffee corner in the main hub for refreshments. While there was no hot food available, we enjoyed the sandwiches and pasta pots on offer during the weekend visit. During term time, it’s worth bringing a packed lunch, and there’s a lovely picnic area available.

Would we visit Eureka! Science + Discovery again?

Absolutely! We genuinely can’t recommend Eureka! Science + Discovery enough. It’s one of those rare family attractions that manages to feel fun, educational, creative, and relaxed all at once. My son was completely engaged from start to finish, and I loved seeing him learn through play.

It’s also the kind of place that grows with your child. I can especially see it being a brilliant resource for homeschooling families or parents looking to encourage more hands-on learning outside the classroom.

We’re already looking forward to making the most of our annual pass and returning for future workshops, seasonal events, and activities throughout the year.

Eureka! Science + Discovery FAQs

Activity at Eureka! Science and Discovery in Wirral.
Is Eureka! Science + Discovery suitable for different age groups?

Yes, and that’s one of the things that impressed us most. While the museum is designed for children and young people up to 14 years old, the activities are varied enough that toddlers, primary-aged children, and older kids can all enjoy different parts of the experience. There’s even a dedicated space called The Burrow designed especially for younger visitors.

How long do you need at Eureka! Science + Discovery?

We spent just over two hours there and easily could have stayed longer. If your child enjoys hands-on play, building, climbing, or interactive learning, you could comfortably spend half a day exploring the different sections and activities. Eureka! suggests that most families spend around 2-3 hours at the museum.

Is Eureka! Science + Discovery good for rainy days?

Absolutely. Because almost everything is indoors and interactive, it’s a brilliant rainy-day activity on the Wirral.

What makes Eureka! different from a normal museum?

The biggest difference is how hands-on everything is. Instead of simply looking at exhibits, children are encouraged to climb, build, experiment, create, and problem-solve. It feels much more like learning through play than a traditional museum experience.

Is Eureka! Science + Discovery worth the money?

In my opinion, yes, it is worth the money. Especially because your ticket includes an annual pass. If you live locally or plan to visit more than once this year, it quickly becomes an excellent value for families.

Can adults enjoy Eureka! too?

Definitely, I certainly did! While the museum is designed for children, I found myself genuinely interested in many of the exhibits and activities as well. It was nice to get involved in activities with my child rather than watch from the sidelines. TripAdvisor reviews also mention that parents and grandparents enjoy it just as much as the children.

Is Eureka! Science + Discovery good for homeschooling families?

I think it would be fantastic for homeschooling families. The museum encourages independent learning, creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity across STEAM subjects in a natural, engaging way.

Can you combine Eureka! with a ferry trip from Liverpool?

Yes, and I honestly think this would make such a lovely day out. Eureka! is located next to Seacombe Ferry Terminal, so you can travel across the Mersey by ferry and walk straight to the museum.

Which section of Eureka! is best for active children?

The ‘Bodies’ and ‘Nature’ sections are brilliant for children who love moving around and getting physically involved in activities. My son especially loved the climbing elements and interactive exhibits that encouraged him to experiment and explore.

Would younger toddlers enjoy Eureka!?

Yes, especially with access to The Burrow, which is designed specifically for younger children. Even toddlers who may not fully understand the science concepts can still enjoy the sensory play, building activities, lights, sounds, and interactive elements.

Is Eureka! Science + Discovery overstimulating?

No. Even on a Saturday, the museum felt spacious, well organised, and easy to explore at our own pace. The timed entry system helps prevent overcrowding, which makes a big difference for children who can become overwhelmed in busy environments.

Eureka! also offers several accessibility and sensory-friendly features to support visitors, including sensory bags, ear defenders, sunflower lanyards, and a dedicated chill-out room for anyone needing a quieter space during their visit. They also run relaxed SEND sessions throughout the year with reduced visitor numbers and a calmer atmosphere.
