My friend needed cheering up last week, so I booked a pottery painting session at The Potting Shed in Hoylake, Wirral. There isn’t anything that a bit of creativity and a lot of chocolate cake can’t fix! We had such a lovely time that I wanted to share more about it in a review. So here is my review of The Potting Shed in Hoylake, Wirral.
I have visited The Potting Shed several times and always had a lovely time. It’s family-friendly and a great way to spend a few hours. I booked in advance using their website for a four-hour time slot on a Saturday, which gave us plenty of time to make our choices, have a few drinks and snacks and get artistic. Here is my review of The Potting Shed in Hoylake, Wirral.
Pottery painting is an excellent activity for all ages
Pottery painting here is an excellent activity for all ages. It’s simple to book too. You can book online without having to pay a deposit. Or ring during opening hours to secure a table. Last-minute decision? Don’t worry. You can turn up on the day; they will accommodate you if they have a free table.
There are lots of pottery choices
We were surprised at how much pottery there was to choose from. There are all sorts, such as plates, mugs, teapots, candle holders, jewellery stands, cute characters, plant pots and much more. We picked a few mugs, and my friend chose an adorable mushroom-shaped candle holder. Then it was time to get painting.
Staff are friendly and accommodating
Once at the table, a staff member gives tips on how much paint to use and how to achieve the best result. They were friendly and chatty and gave us some great ideas. Then you’re away with the freedom to paint your item however you choose. If you have a baby or child and want their hand or footprints done, they can help you with that too.
Food and drink
A small cafe in the store offers delicious cakes, treats, and hot and cold drinks. We had milkshakes and hot chocolates between us, and they were all tasty. They kept us going while we painted away.
Events
Pottery on offer changes throughout the seasons, so if you fancy making your easter or Christmas decorations, you absolutely can! They also cater for parties and hold events such as Painting and Prosecco nights.
Check out their Facebook Page to stay updated with events throughout the year.

We found it a mindful and relaxing activity. We sat together and chatted for nearly four hours, which was lovely. Spending time together and reconnecting this way was priceless, with us all having busy lives. My son, who’s six, absolutely loved it too. He was careful and patient and loved creating something unique to him. I can’t recommend the Potting Shed in Hoylake enough for the experience; it’s excellent value for money and a lovely way to make memories together. Book in if you’re in the area.
